Life is a balancing act
Many entrepreneurs struggle with switching from one domain to another in their lives, especially when it comes to taking care of themselves. Sports often fail, the home front of course 'understands' that the customer needs some attention because otherwise… and then someone from the staff has stepped back so that you get squeezed in project X. All hands on deck!
Now I do not believe in the balance between work and private life. Balance sounds as if a balance is possible. And that is simply not the case: the dynamics in which you are an entrepreneur require continuous switching, adjusting expectations, setting your priorities again, taking advantage of the momentum that is there, just seizing that opportunity.
Regularity and rhythm look different for entrepreneurs. For example, I want to exercise one evening a week: that is only possible with a flexible contract. I have now found a yoga school that has classes every evening, where I can register every day. Was searching. And at home I have to find time for each other: my partner is an entrepreneur himself and often on the road. We are both passionate with the consequence that another month will pass before you know it. Consciously searching together for 'together' moments is necessary, because it does not happen automatically. Yes, we are both at home regularly, but mentally involved with our companies. Going out helps, we have to plan that. Not to mention friendships that also need to be maintained. However, if I have been fully engaged in sales for a few weeks, I mainly feel like peace and quiet and no people around me. So dosing and managing expectations is always important there.
Taking care of yourself requires attention and knowing what is important to you. What your manual is to be and stay mentally fit. This requires maintenance and an occasional catch-up.
